Nikko Day Trip – Itinerary Sample #1

Nikko Day Trip – Itinerary Sample #1
If you are planning a trip to Tokyo there are a bunch of other day trips from Tokyo that you can make. Some are much closer than others. In today’s blog I have made a sample itinerary for those who want to plan a day trip to Nikko. This is sample itinerary two which will include a day trip to Nikko’s Edo Wonderland. I have also written another sample itinerary for a day trip to Nikko so be sure to check that out.

In order to have a full day in Nikko you’ll have to start your day very early since it can take around 2 to 3 hours to get there depending on which train route you take. And both Nikko Edo Wonderland and Tobu World Square close relatively early so it is possible to go see both but either way you would need a very early start to your day. From Shinjuku station, there are 2 different ways to get to Kinugawa Onsen Station which is the station that you need to get to in order to get on the bus to take you to both Edo Wonderland and Tobu World Square. Both of the train routes cost a different amount and the commute time is different as well.

1. From Shinjuku station you can take the yamanote line to Nishi Nippori station. From there you will transfer onto the Chiyoda line at platform two. You will then get off at Kitasenju. From Kitasenju station you will transfer onto the Liberty 101 train which will take you all the way to Kinugawa Onsen station. I would recommend getting on the 6:02 train which means you will arrive at Kinugawa Onsen station a little past 8:30. This is the fastest way to get there as it takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes. However, it does cost more than the second option as it costs 3,170 yen. However, this one is the easiest and fastest so I personally would recommend option number 1.

2. The second way would be to take the yamanote line from shinjuku station to Ikebukuro station and then transfer onto the Saikyo line at platform 4 then get off at Akabane station and transfer onto the utsunomiya line at platform 4 and then get off at Kuribashi station and then get onto the Nippori line and get off at Shimoimaichi station and then get onto the last train which is Liberty Aizu 101 which will take you all the way to Kinugawa Onsen station. This way takes the longest as it is about 3 hours and 15 minutes and you would have to transfer onto different trains many times. However it is cheaper than the first option as it is 2,450 yen

After arriving at Kinugawa onsen station, you have the option of either taking a taxi or a bus to Nikko Wonderland. And i would recommend going to Nikko Edo Wonderland first as it will take more time to go through it. And then you can go to Tobu World Square as it will be on the way back to the Kinugawa Onsen Station.
Things to do at Edo Wonderland:
At Edo Wonderland you can take a step back into the Edo period and get to experience what life was like for the Japanese people during this period. There are a bunch of fun activities and entertaining performances that both kids and adults can enjoy. There is also a bunch of different food from the edo period that you can enjoy.
Some of the activities include:

5. Ninja Maze: There is a Ninja maze at Edo Wonderland that you can go through. At first it’s confusing as I didn’t realize there were secret doors and moving panels but once you know that they are there you kind of know what to look for but it was still a hard maze to fo through.

6. Kodenma Prison: During the Edo period this building served as a prison for criminals during this period. Here you get to see how these criminals were punished.

There are other exhibitions and other activities including making Japanese rice crackers, making chopsticks, painting and drawing that you can enjoy. You are also able to practice archery at their archery training hall. There is also a boat cruise that you can take within the canals of the Edo Wonderland. There are many more activities but I have only mentioned the few that I thought were most fun and they were some that I enjoyed the most.
Some of the performances include:
