The number on the ticket of the pass will be the number of attractions that you can reduce the waiting time. So for example, if you choose Express Pass 3 then you can choose three different attractions where you can shorten the waiting time. But you can only shorten each of the three rides once.

For the Royal Studio Pass, this is a combination of the admission ticket and Express Pass. For this express pass you can shorten the waiting time for all rides and as many times as you want.

Now let me talk about how much each of the Express Passes will cost as the price will depend on the type of pass and the date. There are relatively cheap days and also high days.

-Express Pass 3

—> 3,889 yen (tax included 4,200 yen) ~ 6,852 yen (tax included 7,400 yen)

-Express Pass 4

—> 4,815 yen (tax included 5,200 yen) ~ 12,963 yen (tax included 14,000 yen)

-Express Pass 7

—> 7,038 yen (tax included 7,600 yen) ~ 20,834 yen (tax included 22,500 yen)

-Royal Studio Pass

—> 23,982 yen (tax included 25,900 yen) ~ 36,482 yen (tax included 39,400 yen)

*above price is for those who are 12 years and over

—> 21,667 yen (tax included 23,400 yen) ~ 34,167 yen (tax included 36,900 yen)

*above price is for 4 years old to 11 years old

*For Express Pass 3,4,7 this is the cost for all ages

Which Pass is suited to me?

So which pass should you buy? Well, it will really depend on what you want to do. Personally, I recommend purchasing pass 4 and I will explain my reasons for this later on.

Express Pass 7:

Express Pass 7 is the most popular pas of the four. With this pass you can shorten the waiting time for 7 different attractions. It also guarantees that you will be able to enter the Harry Potter area without having to line up to get a number to enter on a crowded day.

So even if you go on a crowded day you can make the best out of the day without having to wait in line for a really long time.

Express Pass 4:

This is recommended for people who do not plan on riding a lot of the popular attractions. And just like pass 7 you are guaranteed a spot to go into the Harry Potter area without having to wait in line for a number.

It is cheaper than pass 7 so you’ll have some money to buy souvenirs and for meals/snacks. And if you are going to USJ with younger kids then you will most likely be spending a lot of time playing in the wonderland area.

Express Pass 3:

If you are with young children you may not be able to ride all of the bigger rides so maybe it is enough to just shorten the wait time for three attractions. The downside for this pass is that you are not guaranteed a spot to go into the Harry Potter area. But this is the cheapest Express Pass that you can purchase out of the four.

Royal Studio Pass:

If you want to enjoy all of the attractions at Universal Studios Japan then this is the pass to go with. However, it is definitely very expensive.
