Tokyo Skytree

Tokyo Skytree

Tokyo Skytree

Tokyo Skytree which was completed on February 29th 2012, is the tallest structure in Japan making it the tallest tower in the world and the second tallest structure in the world after the Burj Khalifa. It was designed in a way to resemble a 5-story pagoda building. A pagoda, for those of you who don’t know, is a tiered religious tower that can seen all across religious areas in Asia. The Skytree has two different observation decks in total. One which is at 350 meters and then another at 450 meters. Both observation decks have a 360 degree panoramic view of the entire city of Tokyo. You can even see Mount Fuji on a clear day and can also see both Disneyland and Disney Sea.

It’s definitely not a cheap attraction, especially if you are traveling with your whole family or kids. Many tourists and Japanese people will just admire the view of the skytree from afar and completely skip going up it. But the view is stunning and if you are up for it then it is definitely worth going to. Both the Tokyo tower and Skytree are beautiful and both very popular. The difference between the two would be that the Skytree is just much higher up and new compared to the Tokyo Tower. But both have a stunning view and are worth going to.

Some things that you’ll definitely want to know before going up the skytree is that there are going to be A LOT of people. As there are so many people lining up to go up you will be asked to purchase a ticket that will give a time slot in which you can start lining up. So even after waiting a few hours to finally be able to get in you will still have to line up for a very long time. So expect to be waiting for at least a couple hours before actually going up to the observation deck. Luckily the Sensoji/Asakusa shrine is near by so you can always go get a ticket or purchase it online and then go to the Sensoji before going to the Skytree. Or you can always grab a bite to eat at one of the shops by the skytree. But besides that there is not much to do near the Skytree area. You could possibly walk from the skytree to the sensoji and vice versa but it would probably be best to take the train.

During the winter time there are beautiful illuminations that you can enjoy at the base of the skytree. Many people will go to the skytree just to enjoy the illumination. The Skytree itself is also beautifully lit into a blue colour during the night time.
