Takoyaki at Bakudan Yaki Ikebukuro

Ikebukuro is known for having unusual things and in this blog I will be introducing the very unusual takoyaki that they sell at a place called Bakudan Yaki in Ikebukuro. Takoyaki is a very popular snack from Osaka and is usually made as small bite size balls but the Bakudan Yaki has completely changed it up.

There are a few Bakudan Yaki shops that can found throughout Japan and one of them is located in Ikebukuro near the east exit. The takoyaki from Bakudan Yaki is about eight times the size of a regular takoyaki. And it is a bit different from a regular takoyaki because there are more ingredients inside of it other than just octopus. The shop also has fake food samples of the takoyaki so you can get a look at what it looks like. There are also a bunch of different flavours that you can choose from.

Some of the different flavours include mentaiko, kimchi and cheese, teriyaki, cheese mix, and regular takoyaki with sauce. If you have never tried takoyaki before you should definitely try the regular one first before you challenge yourself to trying something new. The regular takoyaki has a sweet sauce on it and there is usually mayo that is drizzled on top as well.

They also have a little window where you can get a look at them making the takoyaki. If you look at the pan that is used to make the takoyaki you will see that it is much larger than the one used to make the normal sized takoyaki.

Also, for those who do not know the meaning of bakudan it means bomb. And I believe that they have taken this from the looks of the takoyaki because it is big and round like a bomb. Once they are finished making the takoyaki it is placed in a little take out box. The taste of the takoyaki is a little crunchy on the outside and then soft and fluffy on the inside. There are also lots of vegetables in it so it is a pretty healthy snack.
