Top Hostels in Tokyo (Part 1)
Top Hostels in Tokyo (Part 1)
I’ve done a blog on some guest house/hostels in Kyoto and now I’m sure a lot of people are curious to know some of the top hostels located in the Tokyo area. If you are jumping from hostel to hostel then maybe you’ve met people who have stayed at some of these hostels. Tokyo really is a cool city but it’s also really expensive too. The good thing is that there are affordable options for you if you are on a budget and the great thing about staying in a hostel is that they have everything you need.
So now let’s get into some of the best places to stay in Tokyo. If you are confused about which area is the best area to stay I will also explain location wise and price wise whether these are a good option for you or not.
Wired Cafe seems to be a very popular place to stay amongst backpackers. Although it is a bit more expensive compared to most hostels it is also not your typical hostel. It is extremely well designed and it is super modern looking as well. They have a bar area and have a restaurant as well that serves super delicious food. The great thing is is that it is also located very close to the famous Sensoji Temple. In fact a lot of these places that I will mention are in the Asakusa area which are near the Sensoji Temple. This place also has free wifi, free towels, toothbrushes and shampoo. You can even rent bicycles here as well.
Another great place in the Asakusa area is Hostel K’s House Tokyo. They provide free wi-fi, a kitchen, and have lockers as well (although you will need to have your own lock). It is famous for having some of the more cheaper dorm rooms considering it is in the Tokyo area. And on Wednesdays they provide free drinks and snacks and it is overall a great place for travellers to socialize and meet new friends. The rooms here are on the smaller price but that’s also because you pay a cheaper price for it to and considering it is close to the subway and a great location it’s a really great deal.
Retrometro Backpackers is another place that seems to be very popular amongst backpackers in Tokyo. It is a really cozy and relaxing hostel that used to actually be a old Japanese style house. They have a very nice living room where you can chat with other travellers and it is also a convenient area as it is close to the train station and also very close to supermarkets too. It is a very budget friendly hostel that also provides free wi-fi, free tea and coffee and even has washing machines here as well. Not all hostels have a washing machine available but a lot do. And if the hostel that you want to stay at doesn’t have a washing machine there is usually a coin laundry in the area.
If you are looking for more of a party style hostel then Kaisu Hostel is said to be an awesome place to stay as it has an onsite bar that serves good beer and cocktails. And it is also walking distance to some of the best partying districts in Tokyo. Also, when I say party hostel there is really not much partying going on. I’m sure that if you have stayed at an actual party hostel in a different country then it really was a hell of a party but you won’t really find that in Japan. But as the Kaisu Hostel is walking distance to Roppongi i’m sure you will find a lot of party people staying here. This hostel actually used to be a restaurant where geishas used to perform but it is now converted into a hostel and cafe. The food is really good as well so a lot of locals come to drink and eat at this bar/cafe. The only downside to this hostel is that there is no kitchen but they do serve some things for breakfast and they have free wi-fi and even a luggage storage area as well.
MyCUBE hostel is also located in the Asakusa area and has very comfortable capsule dorms. They are pretty large dorm rooms but the downside is that there is also space for 23 people so you will be sharing one big dorm room with 22 other people. They also do not have a mixed dorm so it is divided into a male and female area so if you are traveling with a partner you may not want to be separated. The breakfast here is also said to be really delicious considering it is a hostel. They also let you borrow free pajamas and they have free wifi as well.
