Your eSIM will automatically activate at 00:00 (Japan time) on your chosen date. At that time, you will receive a detailed setup guide with step-by-step instructions.
For the most stable setup experience, we generally recommend downloading and installing the eSIM after arriving in Japan. While it is technically possible to download the eSIM outside of Japan, there have been cases where the setup did not complete successfully, which then required the eSIM to be reissued at an additional cost of 1,500 JPY.
If your flight departs after 00:00 (Japan time) and you are connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network when the setup guide arrives, you may choose to download the eSIM and APN profiles before departure. However, please note that this option carries a higher risk of setup issues.
As a safer alternative, we recommend downloading and setting up the eSIM after arriving in Japan using the free airport Wi-Fi. Japanese airports are well equipped with reliable, high-speed internet available immediately after landing, making this the most secure option.
