3. Hachiko Statue

Another extremely famous spot in Shibuya is the statue of Hachiko, which is located near the Shibuya crossing. Hachiko was a dog that was adopted by a man named Eizaburo. Eizaburo and Hachiko soon became best friends and they were said to be inseparable. As Hachiko grew older, he would walk to Shibuya station with his owner to send him off to work and in the afternoon he would go back to Shibuya station to pick him up as he returned from work. On May 21st, 1925, Hachiko had been waiting at his usual spot in Shibuya station but this time his owner never showed up. Eizaburo has suffered a stroke and had died unexpectedly while at work. But for the next 8 years, Hachiko continued to go every morning and afternoon to the train station waiting for his owner to return. And from then Hachiko had become famously known as the faithful dog that never gave up on his owner. The story of Hachiko inspired people all over the country and even all over the world. In 1934, the statue of Hachiko was built and Hachiko even attended the unveiling ceremony.
